East Wing Cells Project
East Wing Cells Project
2008
Renovation of historic cells
Originally dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, the cells situated along the Monastery’s East Wing were built of earth and timber which had deteriorated over time. The cells were renovated using traditional materials and methods by Father Theoktistos and a team of Bedouin helpers under the supervision of architect and conservation consultant Dr Petros Koufopoulos, to restore the building.
