Disinfestation of the book collection of Archbishop Porphyrios III

Noted scholar, Archbishop Porphyrios III, held a substantial library with books dating back to the 15th century.Over 3,000 books in the Monastery’s Cairo dependency, had developed a serious infestation.The fragility of the books meant that the books had to be sealed in plastic and flooded with carbon dioxide and phosphine to remove the infestation under the supervision of specialist, Dr Robert Child.
