Saint Catherine's Portfolio
The artist and architect Doug Patterson visited the Monastery of Saint Catherine in 2001 and 2002. The line drawings and watercolours he produced there comprise a large body of work that is the most important artistic record of Sinai for more than a century.
The Saint Catherine’s Portfolio contains twelve lithographs of watercolours by Doug Patterson, including topographical views, architectural illustrations and scenes of monastic life. The Foreword is by HRH The Prince of Wales, Royal Patron of the Saint Catherine Foundation. In his work for the Saint Catherine’s series, Doug developed the on-site studies in his London studio, using gouache, graphite, colour pencils and gold leaf. The watercolours are spontaneous and direct, yet carefully observed and meticulously finished.
The Saint Catherine’s Portfolio is issued by the Saint Catherine Foundation in a limited edition of ten artist’s proofs and 250 numbered copies printed on American Cotton acid-free paper. The portfolio is available in a choice of three bindings. The artist’s proofs are presented in calfskin or leather, while the numbered copies are bound in cloth.
The lithographs are printed on American Cotton paper. The case is lined in American Cotton paper and fastened with black Petersham ribbon ties.
