The East Wing Cells
Under renovation since June 2004 and scheduled for completion in June 2007, the historic East Wing Cells will once again accommodate the Fathers, who presently occupy cells in the South Wing.
The two-storey earthen and timber East Wing cells were constructed of poor materials and had deteriorated over time. Father Theoktistos and a team of Bedouin helpers have been restoring the structure as their time allows, to plans produced by the architect and conservation consultant Dr Petros Koufopoulos, and with the authorisation of the Egyptian Council of Antiquities.
