Saint Catherine’s Monastery is situated in the heart of the Sinai Desert, at the foot of Mount Sinai, a place sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.

Saint Catherine’s is one of the best-preserved sites of the early Christian period: the monastery’s sixth-century basilica and fortifications constructed by the Emperor Justinian stand magnificently intact.

In recognition of its extraordinary cultural and historical importance, Saint Catherine’s Monastery was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Monument in 2002.
